1.4 How to Use

Simply download the 1.2 plug-in jar file and install it via the OSGi Console.

2. Implementation – Sales (Purchase) Discounts and Returns

2.1 Current State of iDempiere Accounting

iDempiere performs different posting logic based on the document base type of the Invoice. Currently, iDempiere provides four document types for Invoices: Customer Invoice (ARI), Vendor Invoice (API), AR Credit Memo (ARC), and AP Credit Memo (APC).

When posting a Customer Invoice (ARI), the debit side reads Customer Receivables from the customer’s accounting, while the credit side reads Product Revenue from the product accounting.

Example: Credit sale of 10,000.

Debit: Accounts Receivable  10,000
  Credit: Sales Revenue  10,000

When a customer requests a price discount of 500 after receiving goods due to quality issues or market price decline, we issue an AR Credit Memo as a deduction from accounts receivable and sales revenue. When posting an AR Credit Memo (ARC), iDempiere currently uses Customer Receivables and Product Revenue for reverse offset.

Debit: Sales Revenue  500
  Credit: Accounts Receivable  500

2.2 Adding Discount and Return Accounts

To make financial reports more closely reflect actual business conditions, post-sale discounts are recorded using sales discounts. The journal entry is changed to the following format:

Debit: Sales Discounts  500
  Credit: Accounts Receivable  500

2.3 Introduction to iDempiere Product Accounting

iDempiere has a flexible and elastic design for product-related accounting. Through the three-stage configuration of accounting default values, product categories, and products, it greatly reduces the burden of accounting setup.

2.3 Account Setup Overview

The Accounting Schema default accounts serve as the top-level defaults. In this Plug-in, we have added four custom accounts: Sales Discounts, Sales Returns, Purchase Discounts, and Purchase Returns. When creating a new Product Category, all default product-related accounts are automatically copied to the product category.

Supplementing existing Product Category and Product account data.

We provide a Copy Default Product Accounting process to fill in the accounting accounts for existing Product Categories and Products with default values.

Each Product Category’s accounting inherits from the Accounting Schema defaults and can be adjusted according to industry-specific requirements.

Each Product’s accounting inherits from its Product Category’s accounting and can be further adjusted to suitable accounts based on industry-specific requirements.

3. Voucher Printing Function

Although iDempiere provides attachment functionality that allows related vouchers to be attached to documents, many Taiwanese businesses still paste physical vouchers on the back and archive them. To address this need, a direct voucher printing button has been added to the Window Toolbar to meet this requirement.
